Hi folks. My name is Dave ******, I am a St ****** paramedic of 18 years service. Two of my colleagues attended a former patient of mine in Tairua on 10 May 17. The conduct of these two officers on the job was substandard to say the least. One of the officers was told by the patient that I had developed and forwarded a patient care plan for him. One officer stated to the patient, his wife and the other officer that "Dave ****** is a loudmouth and he should be ignored", or words similar and to that effect. The patient and his wife were extremely distressed and he rang me that afternoon. I reported the event through our internal process and the patient stated that he may lodge a complaint himself. The area I work in is very small, and in small towns word spreads fast against members in the emergency services if there is a problem. There are not a lot of paid paramedics in the *************** area. Something like this can quickly destroy a paramedics reputation within a community and can damage a career irreparably. I have never done anything to the officer that uttered the statement to earn her enmity of provoke such a statement and last saw her over 1 year ago. At the time I treated her with the utmost respect and kindness. I do not believe that St John will do much to the officer/s involved other than counsel them. I however have to weather the damage to my reputation due to the officers unprofessional utterance. I don't want renumeration, but want my reputation restored and a clear consequence presented to this officer. What can I do to rectify this dilemma?
