In 2020, I began having difficulty swallowing large vitamins; however, I was still able to eat and drink without difficulty.Toward the end of January 2022, I started to have the onset of chiari symptoms and also an onset severe dysphagia. I was suddenly only able to eat a few jars of baby food, popsicles and Boost. ENT ordered an MRI of brain IACs which was normal and also a normal hearing test. I was referred to GI.I followed up with GI February 2022. I had a full GI workup: upper endoscopy, barium swallow, gastric empty study, and modified barium swallow. Everything cam back normalDue to the dysphagia and other symptoms, I was referred to a Neurologist. The beginning of June 6/16/22, I had the onset of left tongue deviation. A second brain MRI showed 3 mm cellebellar tonsillar ectopia. (Chiari 1 malformation) I then was referred to a Neurosurgeon.On 7/21/22, GI placed a PEG tube due to severe dysphagia.On 11/8, I had a Suboccipital craniotomy with C1 laminectomy.The swallowing did not improve with surgery but all of my other symptoms did resolve.On 12/15/22, I followed with my neurologist. He ordered a creatinine kinase blood test. On 1/18/2023 I had 18 tubes of blood drawn.(neurology/rheumatology lab work combined) CK was normal and everything else was in range. 1/20/23 I had a CT soft tissues neck w and w/o contrast to look at the hypoglossal canal.
