I need help understanding my sons MRI. Study Result
Study Result Impression IMPRESSION: 1. Sequelae of transient lateral patellar dislocation. 2. Sprain of the medial patellofemoral ligament at its patellar attachment. 3. Suspected full-thickness chondral defect of the anterior aspect of the lateral femoral condyle, which may have some fibrocartilage in the defect. 4. Underlying patella alta and trochlear dysplasia. Trochlear groove to tibial tuberosity distance measures 21 mm. 5. Bone contusion of the inferomedial patella and lateral femoral condyle. 6. Large lipohemarthrosis. 7. Suspected cartilaginous intra-articular body in the medial aspect of the suprapatellar recess. Narrative MRI RIGHT KNEE WITHOUT CONTRAST HISTORY: Knee instability, dislocation of right patella. Reference exam: No reference MRI is available Radiographs dated 4/29/2021 TECHNIQUE: Multiplanar, multisequence MRI of the right knee was performed without the administration of contrast. FINDINGS: Anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are intact. No abnormality of the collateral ligaments. Increased signal at the patellar attachment of the medial patellofemoral ligament. Femoral attachment of the medial patellofemoral ligament is unremarkable. Medial meniscus is intact and unremarkable. No abnormality of the cartilage in the medial femorotibial compartment. Lateral meniscus is intact and unremarkable. Chondral defect of the anterior aspect of the lateral femoral condyle measuring approximately 8 x 15 mm. In this chondral defect, there is some material demonstrating decreased signal intensity compared to the adjacent hyaline cartilage. Insall-Salvati ratio measures 1.3. Lateral patellar subluxation. Abnormal lateral trochlear inflammation angle measuring approximately 10 degrees. Abnormal trochlear angle measuring greater than 145 degrees. Shallow trochlear groove. Trochlear groove to tibial tuberosity distance measures 21 mm. Patellofemoral compartment cartilage appears intact. Quadriceps and patellar tendons are intact. Large lipohemarthrosis is present. Suspected cartilaginous intra-articular body in the medial aspect of the suprapatellar recess measuring up to 15 mm (series 5 image 12, series 6 image 8, and series 3 image 21). No Baker's cyst is present. Edema-like marrow signal at the inferomedial patella and peripheral aspect of the lateral femoral condyle. Component Results … read more
