Hi pearl. I get a resting tremor. Sometimes it doesn’t happen at all and sometimes it’s frequent. It usually always happens when I try to relax to try to go to sleep. Sometimes it even starts just from thinking about it

No not at all

I use to be a regular user of mdma, cocaine and marijuana for maybe 5 years but apart from that no medical history. It seems to be gradually worsening

Whats your age ? For how long have you noticed this ?

Is it more in one hand / side ?

Any balance issues , altered sensations in the body , issues with your gait , frequent falls or slowness of speech or movements ?

Do you feel the tremors get worse as you reach out to pick up something ?

Does it improve with a glass of wine ?

I’m 27, I noticed it maybe 4-5 years ago but it was only very irregular and was something I didn’t worry about. It’s only ever my head, in a side to side motion. No I don’t have any of those issues you mentioned only ever a head tremor. Never worsens as I pick up something or anything like that it’s only been the past maybe 6 months to a year in which it always happens when I try to go to sleep. It does improve with alcohol I think the alcohol just makes me forget about it but I feel as though if it comes to my mind then it happens. And sometimes I can convince myself for it to stop. Or if I keep my brain occupied away from thinking about it then it generally doesn’t happen but something as small as thinking about it can sometimes trigger it. Iv been taking Valium occasionally and that seems to keep it at bay when I feel it coming onAfter taking cocaine or other substances it seems to be a a lot more frequent. I find if I smoke marijuana it is almost a instant trigger for it to start

Well at your age , from the description of the symptoms , it sounds more of what we call Essential tremors . These are totally harmless but of course can be a nuisance at times . You can take Propanolol to help improve these tremors . Meanwhile i would advise you to get your Thyroid and liver function tests done , just to rule out a hyperactive thyroid or any liver related condition e,g Wilsons ( which is although quite rare) .

Parkinsons and cerebellar tremors would have more symptoms accompanying rather then just tremors .

can be a nuisance and embarrassing at times . I’m currently overseas on a Holiday untill January so it’s abit hard for me to get tests done. Is propranolol something that needs to be prescribed? Would I be able to go to a doctor and describe my symptoms
And get it prescribed? What exactly does propranolol do? I have looked it up and had a suspicion it would be an essential tremor. Do tremors like this lead to Parkinson’s desease? Would you recommend CBD oil? I’m currently in Canada so it’s easily accessible as it is legal

ET do not lead to Parkinsons . Propanolol can suppress the sympathetic drive thus reduce the tremors , its a prescription item but i cant provide you with a script unfortunately owing to website policy .

CBD has shown some promise but i dont have any experience of trying that on my patients as its not legal here

Are essential tremors common at rest? Because generally that’s when they occur. I almost always get them when at rest when I’m trying to sleep. Only times I don’t is when iv had a lot to drink.. I was reading up about essential tremors and Parkinson’s disease and it says most of the time Parkinsons occurs at rest and essential tremors occurs during movement. If I go to a doctor and explain my symptoms would a doctor prescribe propranolol or would I need to get tests done?

Well Parkinsonism is unlikely at your age . Rest or movement tremors at your age are most likely Essential tremors. Your GP may advise a few tests too but should prescribe Propanolol with that.
