Customer Question
history of same previously diagnosed...
Had brain MRI two weeks ago due to balance, head pressure, history of same previously diagnosed as anxiety. Recent shingles seems to have triggered some side effects from lisinopril previously well tolerated. Extreme anxiety soon after dose, insomnia, headache. Switched to diuretic. Still mild balance issues.MRI findings:
Brain: There is no extra-axial collection or intra-axial mass. Mild diffuse volume loss is within the range of normal for patient age (59M). Aside for minial scattered foci of T2/flair hyperintensity within the periventricular and subcortical white matter asymmetric to the left, normal parenchymal signal is preserved. There is no diffusion restriction. There is an incidental enlarged cisterna magna.
Ventricles: There is an incidental cavum septum pellucidum, a normal anatomic variant. Is no hydrocephalus.
Bones/joints: unremarkable.
Sinuses: Unremarkable as visualized. No acute sinusitis.
Mastoid air cells Unremarkable as visualized. No mastoid effusion.
Orbits Unremarkable as visualized.Shingles really threw me. I suspect it is at the bottom of this somehow. Is that possible? Onset about two months ago. Noticed lack of concentration, dizziness before the rash showed up. Rash gone in 3-4 weeks but brain fog remains. Related to MRI findings?

I don't think your recent shingles outbreak is related to these MRI findings. They are all chronic in nature, and have either always been there (e.g. enlarged cisterna magna) or have been slowly progressive over many years to decades (e.g. scattered foci of T2/flair signal). That said, a shingles outbreak can indicate a suppressed immune system from fatigue, stress or a systemic illness of some sort.
