Brain CT: Prominent central cerebral atrophy is noted, and there is rather extensive periventricular leukomalacia. An old white matter infarct in the area of the posterior left centrum semiovale is stable compared to the prior student 4/21/14. In plain english, what does this mean? The person is 80 years old. Do they have dementia?

He has dementia now and is in a nursing home. The impression says, Senescent changes and evidence of an old infarct along the posterior aspect of the left corona radiata. He has had memory loss and thought blocking for years.

My dad's cleaning lady had him buy her a car in 2016 and took a ton of money from him. He had memory loss but the question of capacity to consent comes in. He was talking and everyone thought he was fine. He couldn't remember to take his medicine in 2014.

you can't diagnose dementia based on a scan

The CAT scan can support the diagnosis.

The diagnosis is made clinically though
