Second opinion] I'd like to know if epidermal nerve fibers repair themselves and regenerate? I've loss some sensation throughout my body and I'd like to know if there's a possibility that sensory nerves in the skin can regrow? And if I will have full sensation again?

Doctor's Assistant: Do you keep personal medical records to help track this?

Yes

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

My neurological symptoms began in January of this year after insecticide exposure and I've it's been throughout my body including my private area. My sensory nerves and muscle strength had been affected but my motor nerves are intact. I'm losing sensation and I want to know if epidermal fibers regrow?

Hello, this is Dr. David. I am reviewing your question now and will be with you momentarily.

Ask Your Own Neurology Question
Neurologist: Dr. David, Board Certified MD replied 10 months ago

how old are you?

have you had a neurological exam to check the nerve sensations in this area

examining the nerve sensations on your own can sometimes be unreliable.

I suspect your nerve fibers have not been damaged beyond repair from insecticide exposure.

I bet your epidermal nerve fibers are fine

let me know if you have questions.

I’m 32 years old and yes I’ve been examined by two Neurologists with an emg and ncv test about 9 months ago. My lower extremities, large fiber...results were normal at the time but over the months I’ve continued to have neurological symptoms, some have reconciled and some have gotten worse. I’m suffering with muscle atrophy, nerve pain, unregulated body temperature
Neurologist: Dr. David, Board Certified MD replied 10 months ago

insecticide exposure would not cause these symptoms.

have you had your thyroid hormone levels checked?

do you have bad anxiety symptoms? bad anxiety can magnify symptoms and make you worried.

muscle atrophy can be helped by eating more protein and exercising regularly.

I have been diagnosed with hashimotos but all of my hormone symptoms began months after my exposure. My doctors theory is that the chemical exposure triggered an immune response and possibly reactivated dormant viruses. It’s interesting that you are ruling out the exposure in its entirety when it’s been scientifically proven that insecticide exposure can cause nerve damage. I no longer have anxiety symptoms, not all patients with neurological symptoms suffer from anxiety and I’ve educated myself on protein, gaining muscle & exercise but this is neurogenic atrophy that I speak of, not muscle atrophy due to inactivity.
Neurologist: Dr. David, Board Certified MD replied 10 months ago

hashimotos is an autoimmune disorder

and your immune system can be very unpredictable when it flares up to make antibodies and when it doesn't

if your nerve symptoms have gotten worse, you should see your nerve doctor neurologist and get another nerve exam
