I am sorry to know that. Well the management depends on whats the source of this problem. If its the spine but there is no accompanying back pain then it can be observed to resolve spontaneously.

However if leg is the source i.e compression as in your case then it usually requires a decompression surgery. Its a short and simple surgery which instantly improves the situation.

To discern between the two you require EMG / NCS test . This will help exactly find out where the problem is and then help manage it accordingly.

Meanwhile you need to put on an ankle brace / special footwear to protect your foot.

Physiotherapy can be very helpful .

But the cure lies in surgery.

hope it answered your query.

will it not resolve itself without intervention? It wasn't a traumatic injury.
Neurologist: Dr.Saleem, Doctor replied 11 months ago

I understand that , its due to a compressed nerve and resulting foot drop is a serious result so it needs surgical decompression

When its affecting your gait ,its causing disability. You can exercise conservitive measures including applying ankle brace and physiotherapy for a couple of weeks. If it doesnt improve then i would recommend neurosurgical opinion for possible decompression.
