Woke up fine then onset of muscle spasm mid left side

Customer Question

Hi Pearl, woke up fine then onset of muscle spasm mid left side back/side. I had surgery on my left thumb so have soma and Vicodin here which has mellowed out the pain. Trying to drink a lot of water as also had Charlie horse in left leg after the back spasm started.
JA: What seems to make the symptoms worse or better? Have you noticed any swelling?
Customer: no swelling. Laying on heating pad helped. Pain is controlled now but still in the background. Staying in bed, but pushing myself to walk around every couple hours
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: All of my issues on left side. Have neck disc compression issues causing intermittent numbness in upper left arm. Arthritic, which is why I had thumb joint rebuilt. We think I am just super dehydrated, but timing weird

Hello and welcome. I'm Dr Chip

Does the pain radiate from one side of your back around to your groin?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No. 100% on mid left side of back and around left side
Expert:  Dr Chip (M.D.) replied 10 months ago.

OK. My first thought is that this is a kidney stone. Those usually pass in two or three days with plenty of fluids for hydration.

The other possibility would be a lower back disk problem.

You need to see a doctor for an exam, urinalysis and possibly a ct scan to determine exactly what's going on here.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Will do. I have had disc surgery and neck fusion, probably time for a tune up
