Thank you for your response to my questions in another post.
You are most likely having what is called as peripheral neuropathy.
This is a condition that can have many causes which must be ruled out by doing various blood tests that include:
- Vitamin B12 levels
- Thyroid hormone levels
- Blood glucose
- Test for syphilis
- Lymes disease
These are just the few common causes that are tested for.
If any of these causes is found then treatment is specific for the cause, for instance, if you have low vitamin B12 then the treatment will be with vitamin B12 replacement. If you are found to have a thyroid problem then treatment would also be for a thyriod problem with thyroid hormone replacement and so forth.
There is a test that is called as a nerve conduction study which is also done to confirm the diagnosis of a neuropathy and this also tells us how severe the neuropathy is.
So the bot***** *****ne is that there is no simple therapy for numbness and that you would certainly require further evaluation before a definitive therapy can be instituted.
