Customer Question

My daughter has suffered from migraine headaches since she was 12. The headaches are getting much worse at age 34. She experiences visual aurora and then she is unable to focus for hours. She is now experiencing numbnes in her mouth and arms. She is unable to choose the words she wants to say when headache is coming. She has had many MRI scans and numerous neurologists with unsuccessful results. We don't know what to do....any suggestions?

This is Dr. David

she should get a thin slice 3 tesla MRI scan with contrast

most MRI scans are 1.5 tesla and not as detailed as a high resolution 3 tesla MRI scanner.

and also EEG testing to check for seizure activity.

has she tried Maxalt or Topamax for her migraines?

she can try botox injections for migraines.

Effexor can be used to help prevent migraine headaches.

atenolol can be used to prevent migraines.

does she have any sinus symptoms? allergies? sinus inflammation can often cause headaches.

let me know if you have questions.
