This is Dr. David
most inner ear infections are caused by viruses
some are caused by bacteria and need a course of antibiotics such as amoxicillin, or augmentin or azithromycin.
most external ear canal infections are caused by water getting into the ear like after showers or swimming and causing a bacterial ear canal infection. these are treated with antibiotic ear drops into the ear to kill the infection.
do you have a doctor you can see who can look into your ear to check your inner ear for infections and see if you need a course of antibiotics?
