VerifiedHello. Yes, you have a histamine reaction. Benedryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine, and is the drug of choice for this problem. But more importantly, you need to know why this happened, and treat the cause. Benedryl just treats the histamine response. Did you get bit by an insect, a spider? Zyrtec would work as well, but benedryl is a better choice for more immediate reactions. That would be possible as well. You still just use symptomatic care, if the antihistamine doesn't work, call your GP and ask him to call in a Medrol dose pack. Dr Frank
