Customer Question

My 12 yo daughter has been suffering for 4 weeks. She has a constant dull headache and when she stands up and walks she becomes off balance and had head pain and pressure (top and sides of head) that worsens with every step. Therefore she is walking at an extremely slow pace. This is preventing her from attending school because it's difficult to walk around building. She had blood work- cbc = fine. MRI = fine. The only different thing that happened before she got sick was 5 days before symptoms started she received 3 vaccines: 2nd round of HepA, 3rd round of HPV & Tdap. During the 1st week she also experienced nausea. She isn't overly active originally but can't do anything at this point in time because head pain n pressure. Motrin doesn't help. Migraines are in family and she does experience 3-4 migraines a year since just before menses at 10 yrs old. Pcp originally said she had a virus. 2 weeks later went to ENT said all ok on that end. I asked Pcp if this could be a reaction related to vaccines, Pcp said no. Any suggestions?

As a neurologist I would treat her for migraine most likely if her neurological exam was unchanged, she had no nuchal rigidity or other signs of aseptic meningitis. Migraine patients can get different types of headache but it is all migraine usually. So what works for her? I assume if she only gets 3 to 4 migraines a year she is on a abortive? I do not believe it is related directly to the vaccine. Please get back to me to discuss. Dr Frank
