My son had an MRI done of his spine with and without

Customer Question

My son had an MRI done of his spine with and without contrast. This was noted under "Discussion": There is a peripherally enhancing T2 hyper intense fluid signal abnormality deep to the right iliac this muscle which is only partially visualized.
Under "Impression" it notes: Suspected abscess in deep to the right iliac this muscle
He has another MRI this morning to include pelvis and right hip area.
What does mean? What could this be?

Thank you for your question.

Suspected abscess means pus inside the iliac muscle. Pus means an infection and this would need to be drained either with surgery or with a needled and you will likely require antibiotic treatment if this is proven.
