I need my blood work read. Family history of lupus, meaning

Customer Question

I need my blood work read. Family history of lupus, meaning EVERYONE has it with the expection of just a few. I have been exhibiting all the same symptoms, but worst; ie: left leg swelling (like prego 8 + months), major fatigue as 13 + hours are not enough to feel rested, if I do any work on Sunday I can guarentee that I will call out Mon., I get mouth ulcers (after stress), pain in my back feeling of my lungs hurting with a sharp pain, heartburn x7 days a week, rash caused by the sun (does not stay long), fingers (pointer and pinky finger) turning, hand itchy bumps which had red dots on them, itchy patches that turn my skin untan-able until washed with head and shoulders (red cap), bronticis symptoms with having to use Cpap (spelling), migraine which effects my speech, memory and numbness starting at the finger tip of left side the progresses up my arm to my left side of face... Sometimes vision go completely out as if I am blind then others I cannot recognize anyone (like a stork)

Hi. Well the good news is that everything in your serological testing is perfectly normal, starting with the ANA, the dsDNA, all normal your C reactive protein which is a very sensitive but not specific marker, is normal. All the tests for Sjogren's , Rheumatoid Arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatic, CREST, they are all negative, or normal. Dr Frank

Good news? Or does that mean I need to seek further testing on what's happening to my mind, body and soul? I do not know what else to do in order for me to live life normal as I feel I live on a death bed, at just turned 35 years old.

Thank you for reviewing!

You are welcome, anyway you look at this, it is good news. It may not answer your question as to the problem, but it does suggest you are not subjecting yourself to a violent autoimmune reaction, that your organ function is fine from an immunologic standpoint. I think you need to keep searching for the reason your leg swelled up, and your overall symptoms, but many bad disorders have been excluded by this blood testing. I hope that helps Dr Frank

Question, I have had a few relatives ANA show neg, but skin grafts tested positive. Also, I've read blood work for lupus is not a single proven test. So in your studies, can there still be an lupus? Just asking... I have so many issues that point to lupus... Ie: I just read the C reactive protein reason and it stated lupus as a reason.... I am so confused. Thank you for your help!
Expert:  Dr. Frank replied 1 year ago.

I have always used the dsDNA as the confirmatory test for an equivocal ANA. I do not know how a skin test for fluorescent AB can be positive whereas all the blood work is negative, but I am not an expert in Lupus/rheumatology, I just am used to treating the CNS and peripheral nerve effects of SLE. So you may have to wait for your rheumatologist on that question as I don't have an answer. Maybe because of your family lineage? can't say. Dr Frank
