My 19 year old son rolled s ankle playing basketball

Customer Question

My 19 year old son rolled his ankle playing basketball yesterday, he had films taken at our local Urgent Care. They said it is not broke and he has a sprain. He was given an air cast and crutches. He was told to ice and elevate it ( which he is doing ). They said he should feel better in two or three days. They also gave me a CD of his images and a referral card to an Orthopedic doctor. They said if he is not feeling better to call him. This concerns me and I am worried he may have a fracture they did not see? His ankle is more swollen, painful and discolored today. Can I upload his films to be viewed?

It is more likely a sprain, but there can be missed fractures, rarely.

An MRI can resolve this if there is any question on exam.

OK, so that is an initial answer….
