transverse myelitis is a rare inflammatory disease causing injury to the spinal cord causing varying degrees of weakness and sensory alterations from that level of spinal cord injury.
radiation therapy to too high of a dose on the spinal cord can cause radiation transverse myelitis and cause numbness and paralysis below that level of the spinal cord.
bacterial or viral infection of the spinal cord at a certain level can cause it.
fortunately this is a rare condition
