Hello from JustAnswer.
There are several options for treatment of a bulging cervical disc that is causing symptoms.
First-line treatment is usually conservative care, with physical therapy and/or anti-inflammatory medicines, such as ibuprofen or naproxen. If there is associated muscle spasm, then a muscle relaxer may also be used.
If conservative management is not adequate, then it would be appropriate to consider injections around the disc. Depending upon the anatomy, the injection may be in the epidural space or around a nerve root.
If these interventions are not adequate or there is evidence of significant neurologic problems related to pressure on a nerve or the spinal cord, then there would be consideration of surgery. The exact surgery would depend upon the exact anatomy, but most often involves removal of the disc and/or fusion.
