I suffered stroke last September causing left side weakness

Customer Question

I suffered stroke last September causing left side weakness and persistent left shoulder pain and sensation of shoulder and scapular area being bound tightly with large rubber bands. I have been under care of orthopedic shoulder specialist who diagnosed chronic rotator cuff tendonosis and received a cortisone injection which along with pain management dr. and regular PT the pain is much less but after nine months the severe tightness persists. Is this some kind of nerve damage related to the stroke?

Hi there, Yes this is correct. You also have nerve impingment at the shoulder level causing tightness. besides the muscles can cause tightness as well from spasms. I will suggest adding a muscle relaxant like Baclofen 5 mg 2 times daily and can be increased to 3 times daily. This is also known as muscle contractures. THis may improve with PT over several weeks. Thank you for sharing your concerns with us today. If you have any additional questions or need further clarifications, please do not hesitate to ask. I am here to answer them. I wish you good health. Regards, ***** *****
