Expert's Assistant: I love the notion of my brother's old guitar having a history and belonging to someone famous. Maybe you have something valuable or historical. Let's find out. Tell us what else you do know and the Musical Instrument Appraiser will be able to better assist you.

I was looking for a piano appraiser re: Nordheimer by Heintzman

Expert's Assistant: Is there anything else the Musical Instrument Appraiser should be aware of?

No just that it has been in the family for 45 years, Works well but could use a tune up.

I'm not where the piano is so I can't get measurements right away

No problem, I can see from the photos.

Ask Your Own Musical Instrument Appraisal Question

In reviewing the photos, this piano appears to be a spinet model. Spinets are between 35"-39" tall and have a "drop key action" which is different than a taller upright. Because of the small size, the strings are shorter and the soundboard smaller than a slightly larger upright. This means the quality of sound is lacking, especially in the bass registers. Spinets were the piano industry's attempt to stay afloat when the great depression hit. These pianos were much cheaper than the standard upright of the time and enabled more families to be able to afford them.

Today, for the above reasons, spinets are no longer made. Most companies make a 43" console piano as their smallest upright.

Considering your description, the photos and market depreciation over time, I would recommend a selling range of approximately $450-$650 in a private sale. Best wishes!
