I have a Heintzman & Co Grand Piano (or baby grand). The metal frame says Heintzman & Co Patent Repetition Grand Action / Agraffe Brudge Patented Mar 10, 1896 (the # XXXXX is also stamped on the frame). The piano has been in our family for close to 90 years, if not longer.

Although the wood finish and mechanical components are in very good condition, the ivory on the white keys needs to be repaired / replaced and the piano needs to be tuned. Any idea how much this might be worth? Anything else I should be looking for in terms of determing it's worth?

The serial number dates this piano back to 1923. Heintzman & Co. was a Canadian builder. These pianos were usually a bit better in quality than others. A baby grand piano is usually one that is about 5'6" in length or smaller, so I'm assuming yours is about that size. Ivory veneers coming off is a common problem for older instruments. Most tuners/restorers have boxes of these old ivory parts that they use when replacing missing parts on pianos. Restringing very well may be needed, especially due to the old age of the instrument. That depends upon how much playing time it has had as well as environmental conditions. An in person inspection by a piano technician could give you some info on that. Based on your description of maker, size, age, condition and considering the used piano market, your 1923 Heintzman & Co. baby grand would be valued today at approximately $3,300-$4,800 USD in a private sale. I'm assuming the $3,300 - $4,800 value would be after fixing the ivory veneers and tuning (restringing if necessary) the piano to get it into proper "playing condition"... i.e., after all aspects of the piano (cosmetic and functional) are brought up to good to very-good condition. Is this a correct assumption?

Well, no, that's the value range I would give based on current condition and assuming the number of key tops needing replacement are few. Tuning would only cost about $100, though it is recommended before selling. At this point we don't know if you need new strings or not so I am not factoring that into the value.
