I need assist with a prob, Pantaloon can use existing
Pantaloon can use existing equipment to produce the beer. The equipment was purchased last year at an installed price of $500. Pantaloon is leasing its current building for $384 per year. The equipment is being depreciated using the 5 year MACRS schedule. Pantaloon will operate the brewery for four more years, and then expects to sell the brewery to an investor for $500 plus any working capital. The firm will have some one-time expenses in year 1 of $120, primarily marketing expenses introduce the new beer. The new beer requires some new ingredients, so Pantaloon will need an increase in Inventory of $25 and will have an increase in Accounts Payable of $15. Working capital will be recovered when we sell the brewery. The new beer is expected to sell 100 six packs at a wholesale price of $6, then increase about 40 six packs per year. Thus year 2 sales are 140 six packs, year 3 are 180 six packs and year 4 are 220 six packs. Cost of Goods Sold (excluding overhead, depreciation, and lease payments) are $3 per six pack. We think the new Pale Ale will reduce sales of our existing POEM beer by 40 six packs per year, and this impact will increase by 15 six packs per year (55 in year 2, 70 in year 3, and 85 in year 4). POEM beer has the same selling price ($6 per six pack), but a lower Costs of Goods Sold of $2.75 per six pack. We currently sell 250 six packs of POEM per year.We tested the Pale Ale last year at a net pre-tax cost of $30. Any funds we need will be drawn on our Bank Line of Credit with a 5% nominal annual rate. If the Pale Ale beer succeeds, the CEO will give himself an annual raise of $25. Corporate has a standard overhead charge of 15% of net sales and does make changes as we add products. The firm's tax rate is 30%. The cost of capital is 13%. … read more
