Not there at the moment
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 1 year ago

Yes please when able, post back with:

  1. wire colors to the CDI;
  2. wire colors from the CDI trigger coil;
  3. wire colors from the CDI charge coils.

Initially, let's try to check and review the basics. Proposed preliminary tries (if have not been done) and even if just for test purposes:

  • temporarily disconnect the CDi's black wire and re-check spark;
  1. if still none, test for low pulsating voltage between the white & red/white wires of the trigger coil while cranking engine;
  2. and for high pulsating voltage on the white/blue wire to the ignition coil.

OkNo spark with black disconnectedWhat should the voltage be on the puls coil?
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 1 year ago

Low; 500mV ~ 1V

How about the voltage on the white/blue wire from CDI to ignition coil when cranking?

Have you checked/ensured CDI's brown wire is tied to a good frame/body ground?

Let's redo the voltage checks:

  • unplug the stator wires to the CDI;
  • measure voltages when cranking:
  1. between white & white/red;
  2. between red & black/red;
  • check Ω readings of these wires to engine ground.

Have you tried DCV setting of the multi-meter?

Ask Your Own Motorcycle Question
Customer reply replied 1 year ago
DC on red an black almost nothing no DC on red an white
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 1 year ago

The low voltage between the white & red/white may be acceptable as it is just a trigger for the CDI to fire. But the voltage between the red & black/red appears to be significantly low. I was expecting something like 50VAC or even more as this is meant to charge the capacitor of the CDI. If the capacitor is unable to charge to a higher voltage, then it would have little or no voltage to discharge to the ignition coil = no spark.

Sounds like bad stator
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 1 year ago

Bear with me; try voltage check when cranking between the yellow wire pairs.

Ask Your Own Motorcycle Question
Customer reply replied 1 year ago
Ok it is less than 3volts ac between them
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 1 year ago

Likewise too low.

What's the Ω between:

  • white & white/red;
  • red & black/red; and
  • yellow pairs.

Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 1 year ago

I understand. And sadly, the stator would be the prime suspect based on the earlier readings.

While I got u what is the coil voltage coming out of the cdi
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 1 year ago

Very high, something like 70 ~ 100+ Volts using a peak voltage meter. Using a regular multi-meter, something like 20Volts.
