Initially, let's try check and review the basics. Proposed preliminary tries (if have not been done) and even if just for test purposes:

  • • check/replace the DFI main relay;
  • • check/bypass/replace the vehicle-down sensor.
Ask Your Own Motorcycle Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
No never replaced DFI or down sensor
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 6 months ago

Start with the checking and ensuring the connections of these 2. The vehicle-down sensor would be directly under the seat while the DFI main relay would be on the right side.

The fuel pump should prime (run briefly) when the ignition is first turned on.

They are connected
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 6 months ago

Sorry but the test/check would have to be more specific:

  • with the ignition switch turned on, is there +12V on the yellow/red wire from the DFI fuse to the DFI main relay;
  • how about on the white/red wire;
  • if none, how about on the brown/yellow and brown/red wires;
  • what are the voltages on the brown/red, yellow/green, black/yellow wires of the vehicle-down sensor?

I couldn't tell you the answer that right now so I will not be able to do that until later in the afternoon when I get off work and I can actually test the bike with a meter
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 6 months ago

I understand and yes please; an update when conveniently able.

Ask Your Own Motorcycle Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
What does the DFR relay control? And what does the down sensor do
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
No DFI
Motorcycle Mechanic: Louie, Technician replied 6 months ago

The DFI main relay provides and switches-on the power to the fuel pump, to the fuel injectors and to the ISC valves.

It is an intelligent switch controlled by the ECU.

In turn the ECU needs a 'good' trigger from the vehicle-down sensor that the Vulcan is upright and in good vertical position.

This is a safety feature to auto-turn off the fuel flow (pump) in case the bike goes down. In some instances, this sensor may be false sensing.
