I HAVE A 07 POLARIS RANGER 500 EFI. After riding for 30

Second opinion] I HAVE A 07 POLARIS RANGER 500 EFI . After riding for 30 minutes or so ,I TRIED TO START THE RANGER ONLY TO FIND NOTHING ON THE START POSITION OF THE KEY. The wiring harness plug was bad ,I knew , so I bypassed the plug with wire connectors , carefully matching each wire. Still nothing . I crossed the solenoid terminals and it started . Thinking the solenoid was bad , I replaced it with a generic brand auto solenoid . when I grounded it to the frame the ignition worked just fine , but now I have no spark !!!! Ben

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked all the fuses? Do you have a wiring diagram?

I DID CHECK THE FUSES THE THAT I COULD SEE AND ALL 4 ARE FINE .

Mechanic's Assistant: What can I say?

Will the correct solenoid restore the spark or did I fry the coil or something .

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ranger yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes I am . I replaced the ignition with a polaris ignition , I checked for power to the solenoid , there was and when I checked the spark at the plug there was no spark .

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

When the new generic automotive solenoid was connected and grounded from then on I have no spark at all .

Initially, post back with the wire colors to the ignition switch.

Better yet, post back with clear pictures of the ignition switch connector/wiring. Click HERE.
http://ww2.justanswer.com/help/how-do-i-send-photo-or-file-expert-hl
These pictures would then serve as common references allowing me to see what you are seeing.

Still, let's try check and review the basics. Proposed preliminary tries (if have not been done) and even if just for test purposes:

  • • 1 wire should be carrying an always available BAT+12V;
  • • another wire would have IGN+12V with the ignition switch turned on; and
  • • a third wire that would have +12V if and only if the ignition switch is turned to START.
