Hello. I changed the rear pads on a '08 sportster 1200 nightster. I don't know what the break pedal felt like before but now I can't get a firm pedal. I have bled and bled with no good results.

Mechanic's Assistant: What's the make/model/year of your bike?

Harley sportster, '08 1200 Nightster

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '08 motorcycle?

Sportster 1200N

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your bike yourself? What have you tried so far?

This is a friends bike.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I'm wondering about a defective master cylinder.

Hello, are you getting a solid fluid flow from the bleeder with some pressure behind it or is it a weak stream? Does the pedal have any firmness and then seem to drop?

Ask Your Own Motorcycle Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
the flow from the bleeder is pretty weak. It does seem to start getting firm but I can still push the pedal to bottom out.

Thanks, ***** ***** all signs of a bad master.

When you install the new one make sure to bench bleed it and NOT make full strokes while bench bleeding and bleeding once connected. To bench bleed you'll connect a hose to the outlet and loop it back into the reservoir filled with fluid and push it until it's bubble free. More info on bench bleeding here it's for a car but the same theory applies for the sporty.

Let me know if I can help further
