I have a 2001...

I have a 2001 heritage classic. I recently had the hydraulic tensioner upgrade, replaced the cams with Andrews cams. Changed all bearings, lifters and used adjustable push rods. The bike runs great but is blowing a large amount of oil out of the air filter. It did not do this before the upgrades.

Mechanic's Assistant: When was your last oil change?

When the upgrades were done to the cam chest

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Heritage yourself? What have you tried so far?

I took it to an independent mechanic for the upgrades. He does not know why it is blowing oil out

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

That’s it

it's possible a problem was created in the oil pump during the maintenance. but before I'd dig into that, I'd check a few other usual suspects.

- check the oil tank level HOT. reduce the oil level to UNDER the FULL HOT level when the oil is at operating temperature.

- remove and clean the air cleaner, clean out the breather hoses in the air cleaner.

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel.asp?Type=13&make=hdmc&a=373&b=4&c=0&d=2001%20FXST%20SOFTAIL%AE%20STD%20(BH)%20ROCKER%20ARM%20ASSEMBLY%20W/%20PUSHRODS

- if the problem persists, remove the upper rocker cover and replace the breather valve #38, and the breather filter #39 on the link.

HD part #17045-99, cam service gasket kit will have all the parts you need, and a few you don't. unfortunately, they do not have a rocker cover service kit. you can order all the gaskets, filters and seals you need separately.

high oil tank level and saturated breather filters are the most common cause of this issue.

the only other cause is excessive blow-by from the rings. that would require a top end rebuild to correct.
