I have a 1966...

I have a 1966 harley xlch sportster with a magneto that I am putting together. I am trying to figure out the correct sequence for the plug wires. Does the front cylinder go to the right or the left socket on the magneto

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked all the fuses? Do you have a wiring diagram?

No fuses. I have a shop manual but it doesn't specify

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '66 motorcycle?

Harley Davidson XLCH Sportster

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your bike yourself? What have you tried so far?

It is all together. But I have forgotten the correct mapping on the plug wiring to the magneto. There are only two choices.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

No that is it.

what is the make and model of the magneto?

It is a stock Harley magneto. Stock with the bike made in 1966
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
There are two ports, like a distributor on the top of the magneto. One is on the right, the other on the left. What I want to know is whether the one on the right goes to the front cylinder or the back cylinder. Are you familiar with these old iron head sportsters

I don't need pictures. I am a HD expert. I log in here to help people like you benefit from my education, training and expertise.

on a stock Harley magneto, both holes fire at the same time, every time.

it doesn't matter which magneto plug terminal is connected to which spark plug.

connect and route the plug wires in the most efficient route to avoid contacting hot surfaces.

let me know if you need more help.

if not, please buy me a beer by providing a POSITIVE RATING.

thank you.
