Customer Question

2001 Dyna won't run at low idle. Pops and cracks thru carb and exhaust.
JA: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
Customer: First start up of the year. Fresh gas (was drained before storage). New plugs, bottom carb pump replaced, no vacuum leaks
JA: What is the model of your '01 motorcycle?
Customer: As I stated previously, Dyna Wide Glide. Is this a real mechanic?
JA: Are you fixing your bike yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I already told you
JA: Sorry about that. I must have missed it. Could you tell me again?
Customer: Fresh gas, new plugs, bottom carb pump replaced, no vacuum leaks. will run with choke on
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Yes, I'll ask again are you a real mechanic?

No offense, but what's taking so long?!!
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Will run fine with choke on.

- if you are sure you have no intake vacuum leaks, your slow jet is clogged.

- you could remove it, clean it and try again, or replace it with a new jet.

I would also add SEAFOAM to the fuel. it will clean your fuel system.

let me now if you need more help.

Thanks. Where is the slow jet? I think you have to remove the main bowl and the slow jet is screwed into the carb housing, right?
Expert:  Steve replied 2 months ago.

the Pilot jet is inboard of the main jet and way up inside the carb body.

I've attached a pic.

it may or may not have a rubber plug in the hole. if you see a black rubber plug inboard of the main jet, pull it out and run a screwdriver with abut a 1/4" flat blade tip up the cavity to unscrew the pilot jet.
