Customer Question

Hi, I have a*****star that I bought second hand. It has recently stopped running. I replaced the spark plugs and the fuel pump, thinking that was the issue, but now I believe it is something electrical.
JA: Have you ever replaced the fuel pump, or is this the original?
Customer: I just replaced the fuel pump today, it just came in the mail.
JA: What is the make/model of your car?
Customer: Road Star 1600XV I think
JA: Are you fixing your bike yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I am fixing it myself, I have replaced the spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter and fuel pump. I have checked the fuel line but I haven't checked to see if the pump's wiring is faulty,
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: nope, that should be it.

Hi and welcome to the site, I’m Louie. Sorry you had to wait awhile but I’ll do my best to help.

Initially, have you tried removing the sparkplugs after attempting to start:

  • • to determine if fuel reached the spark plugs / combustion chamber;
  • and then cautiously check for sparks.
Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I did pull the spark plugs after attempting to start, they were not wet, and I also checked for fuel being pumped through the system while trying to start but it wouldn't flow, which is why I changed out the pump.

And have you checked for sparks?
