Customer Question

I was riding my R1200RT and it just quit. I thought it was out of gas but it wouldn't start after putting fuel in the tank. I checked the battery and connections and those are fine and it has a full charge but still won't start. Any ideas?

Hi Wade, I’m Louie. Sorry you had to wait awhile but I’ll do my best to help.

Initially, the described symptom could either be a fuel delivery/starvation issue opr electrical/igntion.

Let's review and try the basics to determine general area of possible fault. Proposed preliminary tries (if have not been done):

  • • attempt to start again but briefly work the throttle as if trying to flood the engine; then
  • • carefully remove the spark plug;
  • • determine if the tip got wet with fuel;
  • • check the burn color of the ceramic to the tip;
  • • cautiously perform a spark test;
  • and note if fuel enters the combustion chamber.
