Customer Question

Hello, I have a 78 CT 90, just installed a new Keihin carb. It was running yesterday, but now I can't get it to start. I'm wearing out my right leg kicking it. Any ideas?

Hi Tom and welcome to JustAnswer,

Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only...

Initially, it would appear to either be a fuel delivery or an ignition issue. Proposed preliminary tries (if have not been done):

  • • attempt to start again;
  • • remove the spark plug;
  • • check the color of the ceramic tip and if it did get with fuel;
  • • then carefully perform a spark test to check for presence and consistency of spark;
  • • if no spark, then electrical/ignition issue,
  • • if there is spark, re-install the spark plug, cover the carb mouth with the palm of your hand and attempt to start the Honda;
  • • feel if there is strong suction at your palm;
  • - no suction engine issue;
  • • check if your palm got wet with fuel;
  • - did not get wet with fuel, carb issue.
