JA: Do you have a manual or an automatic transmission? When was your transmission fluid last checked?

JA: What is the model of your '00 motorcycle?
Customer: Harley Fatboy
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?

most often, shifting problems are the result of a misadjusted clutch.

I recommend adjusting the clutch and cable before doing anything else.

let me know if you need instructions.

More info. I had ridden about 30 miles. Made a stop. Continued riding for about 5-6 miles. Shifting was normal. I downshifted to a stop light. When I accelerated after the light turned green, I could not shift into 2nd. The tranny went into neutral. I could shift back into 1st. I limped home in 1st gear. I cant see how my clutch cable came out of adjustment at the light.. I will check it though.

When I move the foot shift lever up or down and let go, the lever at the tranny returns to vertical.
