you have bad ground connections on the flashers. they are using the ground connection through the head light and tail light.

this is not uncommon in older vehicles. you just need to go through the electrical system, clean up all the contacts and make good ground connections.

What do you suggest i clean the contacts with? I have already brushed and blown all contacts in the connections to the handles and replaced all pins and clip connectors. The only thing i have not done is pull the wiring from inside the rear rack and handlebars, figuring that shouldnt have to be done.

you have poor ground connections. you need to fix them.

whatever you have done has not resolved the problem.

in extreme cases, I have spliced in new ground wires.

pay particular attention to the connections between the battery and frame.

ohm out the grounds from the flashers all the way to the battery if you have to.

What does "ohm out" mean? Arenyou saying test them out?
Expert:  Steve replied 1 year ago.

the resistance function of a multimeter can be used to verify the continuity of wiring and connectors.

HIGH resistance readings indicate poor contact.

on the meter, more OHMs = higher resistance = poorer connection.
