Hi, if you have the plunger type choke it can be unscrewed from the carb and the cable can be removed from the plunger.

If you are replacing the cable then the upper end of the cable

must be removed otherwise you can just replace the choke plunger from the bottom by pushing up on the plunger spring and detaching the plunger from the cable. Screw the new plunger back in and make sure there is enough free play on the cable to allow it to bottom out inside the carb. Let me know if you need more info.
