I have a 1996 Heritage Nostalgia and it will turn but not

Customer Question

Hi I have a 1996 Heritage Nostalgia and it will turn but not start..Had a huge back fire. Spark plugs new, coil is OK, wiring good, crank sensor changed, now the mech thinks it is the VOES switch... I am wondering..

The VOES is either on or off in terms of how it operates.
Testing it is easy, disconnect the electrical connector at the switch and check for continuity on the switch side of the connector, there should be none. If there is it has failed in the on position

If there is no continuity you then unplug the vacuum hose to it and check continuity while applying vaccum with a hand vac pump. you should hear an audible click and see continuity on the meter between 4-7 inches of vacuum.

Could it prevent my bike of starting? it does turn but won;t start...

I suggest doing the above test. If it passes I would be looking at checking the ignition module and harness.
Another issue I've seen cause backfiring and no starts on these rubber mounted engines is the ground strap under the engine being loose. It's worth a look.
