My father has a 08 softail custom 96 cubic inch, he upgraded to the 103 kit and is looking for a replacement battery. We've heard Gel batteries are a better option to go with. I guess what I'm trying to ask is that a true statement and if so, what size/type of battery fits his motorcycle? It's supposed to be a Christmas present so any information would help. Thanks

Welcome. Thank you for choosing Just Answer.

NEVER install a gel battery in a Harley. they are not 12v batteries and they require special "on-board" battery chargers.

the best battery available is made by Interstate. you should be able to get one from your local Interstate battery store. see this link http://www.interstatebatteries.com/cs_eStore/Search.aspx/Motorcycles/HARLEY-DAVIDSON-MOTORCYCLES/FXST?dsNavigation=Ns~product+Type%7c101%7c1%7c,N~38-2147384885-4282938405-4282937475

get the most expensive one you can afford. you will get what you pay for with Interstate. these are Yuasa batteries and are made in the USA.

my second choice would be a HD battery from the HD dealership.

I would suggest buying him a "battery tender" to go with, if he does not already have one.

let me know if you need more help.

the interstate batteries you posted in the link are the same as yuasa? Yuasa has their own website and let you specifically narrow down to the motorcycle that you need to fit. If you suggest the interestate battieries there's 3 to choose from. How do I know which one to choose, they vary in price by like $10-$20 so price really isn't a concern. If you could specifically recommend the exact battery model and kind that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I answered all these questions above.

I narrowed the list for you to '08 softail batteries already. all three batteries on that link are specifically for 2008 softails.

I recommend the FAYTX20HL.

these batteries are NOT the "same as yuasa"....they are made by Yuasa for Interstate.
