How much play should a 2001 TC88B primary chain have? (Hot vs cold)

Welcome. Thank you for choosing Just Answer.

the free play in the upper strand should be 5/8" - 7/8" cold, 3/8" - 5/8" hot.

I prefer to do it hot. I feel it results in a better adjustment. and realistically.....the only adjustment that matters is the hot adjustment becuase what temperature the chain is when you are riding the bike. it just makes sense.
