super: 12000 mi..spring for s&s 106 cyl..wich is cool)..motor warms up…

Customer Question
hello, i have a 2004...
hello, i have a 2004 electraglide police model
it had 12000 mi. on it and had some valvetrain niose that i could not stand so i decided to have a custom bike shop install a andrews gear drive kit with 525g cams in it i figured while the bike was apart i would also spring for s&s 106 cyl. kit with super stock heads. this all being said, they finished up the bike and i still have a noise in the valve train, now im not talking about the actual gear whine (wich is cool) but a loud clicking that increases as the motor warms up. they have adjusted the s&s pushrods a few times and it has helped but not alot. any thoughts on this matter?

Welcome to Just Answer.

I wish you had asked before the cam job. the noise has only a couple of possibles causes.

either the oil pressure is low and not allowing the lifters to stay pumped up (which is the typical cause of lifter noise) or it could be due to excessive runout on the pinion shaft, which could easily have been checked during the cam job. I mention the pinion shaft runout because it would not be unusual for twin cam flywheels to slip in the crank pin and result in excessive runout on the pinion shaft.

the oil pressure is easy enough to check. I would start there.

twin cams are also known for oil pressure issues. the material that wears off the cam chain tensioners gets into the oil system and can block oil passages and cause reliefs to hang open.

let me know what you find.
