Classic: 2000 rpm it spits and sputters like your pulling..kit..bike…

Customer Question
2006 ultra classic at...
2006 ultra classic at or below 2000 rpm it spits and sputters like your pulling a plug wire loose and puting it back on, over 2000 it's fine, it idles fine, and it accelerates fine but has no throttle response when you bump the thottle and down shift. I put true dual thunder headers on and an air cleaner kit and harley did a stage whatever download, but this problem was there before any of this was done while the bike was stock, it has 20000 miles and new plugs new plugs, any help would be great. thanks gene.

In 2006 h-d changed the injectors as well as the throttle body, this setup initially used 8degree injectors, meaning they have a 8degree narrow spray pattern. On stock units, and as far as I know, h-d stage downloads there was a service bulletin in which under warranty you could have the 8degree injectors replaced with 25degree spray pattern injectors which atomize the fuel better which especially at low load low rpm and idle. This was covered under factory warranty and would only be adressed with a customer concern (you had to complain about it to your dealer). To identify if you have 8 or 25 there is a part # XXXXX the injector itself, either -06 or -06a, -06 being 8degree and -06a being25dgree. If the bike has been race tuned or any non h-d tuners usually this problem wouldn't be a problem because of the additional fuel that was added as part of tuning. In your situation I think this would of helped. If the dealer has a record of your complaint you may have some merit to get cover under good faith or dealer good will money. I think your best option if these others don't work out would be to get a race tuner/ super tuner. I say this because of the fact that you have true duals. Harley maps are set up for stock header pipes with the y-pipe intact with screamin eagle slip-ons, any deviation from this "recipe" and you will have a bike that doesn't perform at its optimum. The reason i suggest a race tuner/super tuner is that you can tune each cylinder independantly from the other. The newer power commanders will also to some extent, but not as well as the h-d types. With true duals I have found this (the independent cylinder tuning) to be very important because of the rear cylinder restriction caused by the quick turn that the rear exhaust pipe makes. First hand experience on our dyno has shown that the front and rear cylinders on these exhaust systems are very different when it comes to fuel injection tuning. Hope this all helps please let me know if you feel like I have you headed in the right direction.
