2005 polaris predator 500 wont start..carb..spark plug..timing

Customer Question

2005 polaris predator 500 won't start. We have checked the fuel, fuek shut off valve, cleaned the tank, cleaned the carb., changed the spark plug, checked the spark, checked the safety shut down and every thing checks out ok. Could it have a timing issue??

hey cag 118.

whats the compression in the cyl.?

if you have spark, compression, and fuel even if its out of timing it would still spit and sputer and shoot fire out the exhayst manifold.

compreesion has to read over 105 psi and it cant be more than a 10 % difference in between the cylinders.

cheers

That is not true, you also need intake air.

Was the air filter checked?
Is it clean with no signs of nesting?
Do you have a compression tester?
Is the battery fully charged?
Was the plug fouled?
Did you try a new plug?
Was the carb returned to factory settings & were all the ports & orifices cleaned with air?

The Compression is at 115 psi, The spark pulg is new, we had a battery charger hooked to it. It will fire on starting fluid but only pops and cranks. Have not been able to get it to fire on gas.

make sure the spark isn't intermitant spark. meaning its a continius spark .

cheers
Customer: replied 8 years ago.
yeah it is continous spark and it is really good. Also when we crank it it will sometimes burp fuel backout of the carb.

heyCustomer then you should check the timing as you suspected . also make sure your spark plug wires are not reversed , even at the coil.

cheers
