Servicing a 1995 883 Sportster. How much oil should the transmission take and what is the best type of oil? Also same for the engine?

Hi wildman,

if you are planning to do your own maintenance, do yourself a favor and get a service manual. all recommended service, frequency and instruction is in the service manual. it is MUCH more involved than oil changes!

the engine gets 3 quarts of 20w/50. before installing the new filter, take one of the quarts and fill the filter....it will take a while.....fill it, let it settle and keep filling until full. pour the remainder in the oil bag.

the transmission/primary gets a quart of "sport-trans lube".
