It is true, in most cases you won't notice any issues at all. If it was locking up, then it would be a problem, if it's just not locking all the way, then it's going to be ok.
You might actually want to try a transmission flush to clean out any debris that might be in there. Solenoids don't fail that often, it's usually a dirt issue.
