1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS...

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS runs great absolutely no problems then with no warning it dies....when it dies there is no spark at all coming out of the coils. I can disconnect the negative battery cable, then reconnect it and it starts right up

Mechanic's Assistant: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged?

Nothing goes out except no spart

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Eclipse yourself? What have you tried so far?

Spark lol

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Checked the resistance on the coils both primary and secondary resistance is within tolerance

Have you had a chance to check for codes?

No sir....lol I'm afraid of it dying on me and there is a lot of road construction here But I will say there has never been a check engine light on
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I have checked all the fuses and relays

Ok, normally when you lose spark like this it's a problem with the cam or crank sensor. It get's hot, then fails, then when it cools down the car will start and run again. I have seen this happen without storing any codes many times.

I would ask that you check and make sure the check engine light comes on when the engine is not starting. You might be losing the ecm relay, that would also cause the lack of spark as well. These are the places I would start with, in fact I might even just replace the cam sensor and go from there.

Sorry about the call, just can't do a call at this time.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to earn a 5 star rating from you.

Turned out to be the cam position sensor. Luckily on the 420A motors it's right above the oil filter and not in with the timing belt. Thanks again Mike

You are very welcome and I am really glad it's up and running well again!
