Customer Question
I have a 2093 Mitsubishi...
I have a 2093 Mitsubishi lancer es, I rencently cahneged all 4 fuel injectors, tune up with coil changed and change the fuel pump now my car want start it only clicks when I turn the key. Before changing the pump it started. I after replacing the old pump with a new one it would start and run for a few seconds and cut off. So I put the old pump back in then it wouldn't start at all. So I took the old pump out and accidentally dropped it and broke the top portion off so I went and bought a new one at the auto store. Now this one is doing the same thing it want start only clicks when the ignition is turned. I followed the steps in a previous forum and got down to disconnecting the c210connector the test light is red when the connector tested. Also I installed a new radio now, the radio, dome light and low beam headlights, door open/seat belt notification want turn on. I can't figure out how to get the fuses out the yellow fuse holder that house the dome/radio fuse so I can check them. Please help.....

Is the relay just clicking or the starter motor when you try to start ..

Do you have a volt meter .

Greg

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
The relays click and theres a click from the motor also
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
I have a circuit light
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
The battery is good I had it checked last week
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 25 days ago

Okay normally there is no connection with the fuel pump circuit to cause you this issue .

I would first check battery voltage, you should have around 12.6 volts on a good fully charged battery

if you do have good voltage check battery connection as this is a starter circuit problem ,low voltage or a bad starter.

Check first voltage at the battery lead post then check the voltage at the battery cable clamps if clamps have a lower reading than the battery post clean connection .

Battery could be good but do the voltage test a lot can happen in a weak .like a failing alternator for example .

Greg

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
My battery was already tested it was good
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 25 days ago

okay first clean the connection on the battery ,if the starter is just clicking its a voltage issue or a starter circuit

problem .bad ground bad relay .

Can you do the voltage check for me

Greg

Battery test results: 12.27 volts
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 25 days ago

good was that on the post clamps or in the middle of the battery post .

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
Both read the same 12.27
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 25 days ago

okay 12.2 is low but now try and start the engine ans watch the voltage and let me know how low the voltage drops

for example dropped down to 12volts or went below 10.6 volts with ignition in the start position and held

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
11.36
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
It attempted to start and the volts dropped to 10.48
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 25 days ago

okay do this again with the starting and hold the ignition switch on start and have a second person tap the side of the starter motor looks like a sticking starter .

But confirm you can feel the starter click when trying to start .

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 25 days ago

Okay forget the above and recharge the battery and then try again

battery is to low on charge to turn the starter .

While my battery is charging I'll tell you what I've done so far. I checked the red wire on the fuel pump with the curcuit light it didn't light up, then I checked the relays for clicking both clicked. When the relay #1 socket was checked only one pin lite up. The c210 pin with the white wire was checked with the curcuit light it lite up als,. The fuel pump fuse under the hood was checked it was burnt and broken so I changed it. That was kinda weird because I had checked that fuse before when all this started and it was ok. The fuse for the engine control inside the car didn't light up and the fuse is not broken. I swapped the fuse out and tested again the same thing no light.
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
Ok the batteries in
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 25 days ago

No check engine Light will come on when ignition switched ON.?

Check all under dash fuses again and all fuses under the hood .

Need battery at full charge which is 12.6 + volts .

when trying to start should not drop below 11 volts .

Greg

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 25 days ago
Engine light comes on. All under dash fuses ok. Underhood fuses that don't light up with curcuit light ( low/high beams, radio, dome light) . High beams want light up but light will turn on.
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 25 days ago

When the battery is fully charged recheck and then get back to me.

Ok all fuses in the car expect #6 but I don't have a heated door mirror so that one doesn't matter. Under the hood: all work except #16-19, #23 and only one side of #22 will light up I insepected the fuses they look ok.
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 24 days ago

okay good .

When testing and only one side lights up then replace the fuse ,power is not getting by

Greg

I can't figure out how to take it out the yellow fuse holder you can only pull up on it it want come out
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 24 days ago

The four fuses in the group will not be the problem .

don't worry about 22 just the heated seat .

after charging the battery to full capacity is the starter still clicking .

Greg

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
What heated seat??
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
still want crank, it clicks but not like before
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
Before it was a loud click. By the way the ignition button was changed last summer
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
Do I need to try to start the engine while doing this or just put the ignition to on then place the wires like the diagram says
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
Can't find the m terminal connector
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 24 days ago

M is the main battery cable on the solenoid

no need to switch on ignition at this stage lets just see if the starter works or not .

Fuel pumped checked again to make sure it was assembled correctly it's good. attempted to start car it was trying to start but didn't quite get started. Checked battery again before attempting to start car it read 12.59. Checked battery after start attempt it read 12.45.
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 23 days ago

What is the voltage of the battery during the cranking time crank engine for 10 seconds and read voltage .

Greg

11.6
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 23 days ago

so the engine is cranking over fast or very slow .

Greg

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 23 days ago
Fast
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 23 days ago

okay so now the engine is cranking over fast and not just clicking .

okay now spray carb clear or EZ start spray down the throttle body when

cranking the engine over and see if she fires up .

Greg

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 23 days ago
Spray it on the trottle body?
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 23 days ago

no spray into the throttle body so it get inducted into the intake with the engine cranking if you have spark it will start

and this will confirm if you are getting fuel to the cylinder.

If does not start check that you are getting spark to the spark plugs .

If engine start check fuel pressure ,injector are working .

Did you ever check for malfunction codes ?

Greg

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 23 days ago
Ok, the injectors are new and I cleaned the throttle body today with mass flow cleaner. Right before I attempted to start it the first time. Is there a difference between mass flow and carb cleaner. No didn't check for code because the car want start. Will get a
scanner tomorrow and check for codes.
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 23 days ago

No matter if injectors are new or old if they are not getting a signal to open up you will not get fuel .

this is why we need to induce fuel "Carb cleaner" when cranking the engine to see if the engine starts.

What i suggest you do is first check for codes clear codes then switch ignition ON and OFF with 10 seconds inbetween then switch ignition on and recheck for codes .then crank engine for 10 seconds with a wait of 5 seconds do this three times then check for codes .

Give codes as they come .

Ok, no codes per scanner but engine light cuts off after connecting scanner. Carb in throttle body didn't work.
Customer reply replied 22 days ago
Battery is now at 12.4 when off and 11.8 when trying to crank
Mitsubishi Mechanic: Greg, Technician replied 22 days ago

Okay voltage still acceptable, now with scan tool in live data cranking the engine and check engine speed reading

you should have around 250 rpm .

Confirm you have spark at the plugs .

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 22 days ago
Engine want crank only clicks

SO Y THE FUEL PUMP?

Ask Your Own Mitsubishi Question
Customer reply replied 21 days ago
Shouldnt have changed it. I tested and changed the injectors all were clogged at at least 2 sprayer pins, 1 was leaking. Tried to clean them didn't work. So I didn't want to take a chance and ruin the new injectors so I changed the the fuel pump/strainer, the strainer was dirty and is sediment in the fuel tank. I also had alot of hesitation issues with starting and trying to up uphill the accleration wouldn't get past 30mpg, but once up the hill car would accelerate fine. So that was the main purpose of doing all this.
Customer reply replied 21 days ago
What would be easier testing or changing it. The part is about $35 with shipping, but $75 at AutoZone.

IF THE CRANK SESNOR FIXES IT THEN CHANGING IT IS BEST OPTION. IF YOU CHANGE IT AND DOESNT FIX IT THEN YOU CAN SCRATCH THAT OFF THE LIST OF POSSIBILITIES
