I have a 2003 Mitsubishi...
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 3.0L SOHC. It was making a terrible clatter noise on cold starts, but would dissipate once warm. Changed plugs, wires plenum gasket, valve cover and plug tube gaskets. Replaced timing belt, water pump and pullies. Even got a new radiator and cold air intake. Changed oil Mobile 1 extended performance full synthetic. K&N oil filter and new antifreeze. Now it starts, sounds good, then dies in 3-5 seconds. Crank the key again and just cranks. But if I cycle the key it will start again and die in 3-5 seconds. I'm lost.

No, I haven't. It has run perfectly good except for the cold starts which I diagnosed to the timing belt and tension pully. It's not running rough at all. Just dies.

with the dying you may have a fuel issue, I would check that first, 38 psi with vac and 47 without

I just had the engine torn apart and it's not running rough. I am certain compression is good. What if the two can sprockets were a half tooth off each? But then again it is not choking or even stumbling.

if it was off it would show some sort of issue at ilde or under load, I would suspect the fuel system first,

I do need help, but compression is not at fault. Going to look at ckp to make sure the contact is in the right place. And then maybe open up the ECM.
