Hi welcome to just answers my name is ***** ***** a transmission that starts to show hesitation or shutter upon acceleration is a sign of fluid pressure problem cause by either the pump not producing volume or the valve body clogged up not letting pressure flow to the clutches properly this problem will usually come with codes and an engine light. Reading the codes will help identify the affected area. Some times when the dealer see the problem and they know they can fix it, they will rather suggest the entire unit because the repairs will not last long, due to clutches and seals inside the transmission that can also be damage and they may become a problem later. So to prevent a "come back" wish can be bad for their reputation they will rather suggest a complete transmission.
