1995 Mitisubishi Eclipse 2.0 non turbo ecu I'm told if I replace it need to have the vin # ***** into it ,,can only be done by Mitisubishi ,,it is an obd1 ecu.... and if true the car is used for racing,,is there any way around it

no confirmed from Mitisubishi parts dealer that the number it also a chrysler part number ..motor is made by chrysler

Hi,
These ECUs can be VIN coded by other scan tools apart from Mitsubishi and DRB tools.
It is important to note that not all 95's had VIN coding, on occasion you will run in to one that does not. You can only tell by hooking it up and seeing if it throws a fault... if you set a VIN MISMATCH fault, then yours is VIN coded.
Any high end scan tool should be able to accommodate this... a Verus or even some of the higher end Autel units are usually capable of VIN coding on these early units (as opposed to 201X VIN coding which is more difficult).
Even at worst case scenario you have to take it to a Mitsubishi or Chrysler dealership, it only takes 5 minutes to bring the car in, hook up, and write the VIN. It should be the minimum labor charge for the shop.
