Mitsubishi Eclipse: were is computer located at 2003 eclep

Customer Question

The primary computer for engine/transmission control is located on the passenger side firewall, on the inside of the vehicle in the passenger compartment.

The computer is mounted directly on the firewall, behind the dashboard and behind the AC duct work. To access it, do the following:

Open passenger side door
Pull front edge of carpet back from firewall
Look up the firewall, you will see the computer and harness
On the bottom of the computer there is a bracket with a single 10mm bolt at the bottom holding it to the firewall
Remove the 10mm bolt/nut
You can then slide the computer and bracket straight down (the top is just held in with rubber posts and pulls down to release)
The wiring can stay plugged in until the computer is laying on the floor, there is plenty of slack so you do not need to fight with unplugging it while it is still mounted.

If you have any questions just let me know.

The computer is located in a spot where if the sunroof drains leak in the right way or the windshield leaks just right, it will get the computer wet.

The best thing to do right now if you suspect that the computer was damaged from the sunroof leaking is to go ahead and pull it down and check it for signs of moisture. If it appears dry, then unplug the connectors (make sure the key is OFF) and look at the pins to see if there is any corrosion (green powder, etc). If there is no signs of moisture and no corrosion in the connectors/pins, then odds are it was no affected by the leak.
